Darius & Chayla - Can We Talk?
This excerpt is from my untitled WIP Darius & Chayla. Here Chayla is approaching her best friend Trina to apologize. Apologies for the shortness. Enjoy
I haven’t spoken to Trina since our fight yesterday. To be honest, I was still mad at her for doubting Darius’ intentions. Even though I’ve only spent one day with him, I’d say he was a perfect gentleman and Trina was wrong.
Yet as I watched her walk past me without so much as a glance, I couldn’t help the sting that pricked my heart. Maybe I should be the one to apologize.
But don’t you always make up whenever you fight?
That thought stopped my cold. I always made up whenever there was a rift between Trina and I. Even when she was the one to start the fight, I would call or come over and apologize, bring over baked goods, and suggest one of her favorite movies to watch. I couldn’t think of a thing Trina ever did to apologize.
Yet that was unfair. Trina had my back in any fight I’d ever gotten myself into. And has threatened on more than one occasion to commit a felony for me. She almost did when my former crush turned nemesis demolished my feelings Freshman year. Trina had always been by my side, through thick and thin (and I put her through the thick of it), surely I could find it in me to make amends?
Deciding to swallow my pride (more like my hurt), I turned on my heels and trailed behind Trina. I called out to her, but she either didn’t hear me or refused to turn around. I quickened my pace and touched her arm.
“Trina please. Can we talk?”
