12 Books of Christmas You'll Truly Love to Read
I’m finally finished with all my exams and all my Christmas shopping. And what better way to celebrate than to find some good reads to cozy up with this holiday season. This list is a mixture of books that I’ve either bought or added to my to-be-read lists. I don’t normally read holiday themed books during the holidays. If a read is a good read, then I’ll read it whenever. But I thought this would be a fun way to see some of the holiday reads and share with you all. I’m sure there are more reads out there that I’ve missed, so please feel free to suggest them in the comments below. Enjoy!
My True Love Gave To Me: Twelve Holiday Stories edited by Stephanie Perkins (various authors) - I actually have read some of Perkins summer anthology Summer Days and Summer Nights. And I found that I loved it! So I immediately put My True Love Gave To Me on my TBR list. No I haven’t had the change to buy it yet, let alone read it but I’m excited about it and that warrants a mention on this list.
Window Shopping by Tessa Bailey - I loved the description of this. To summarize, man asks woman what she thinks of store window, woman says it’s ugly and man asks for more ideas. Man is owner of store but hires woman anyway and woman must resist her attraction to man. This is basically a holiday meet cute/office romance. It’s been a while since I’ve read an office romance and I have never read one done with the holiday theme. So I’m curious to see how this pans out. Stay tuned for the book review coming this month!
The Mistletoe Pact by Jo Lovett - This is they woke up married story. Which I have read before and do find interesting. But there is more than they woke up married. Evie and Dan have known each other for a while and have made a pact to get married if they weren’t by the time they turned thirty. And it would seem they’ve had feelings for each other all along. Maybe getting married is exactly what they needed to finally admit they like one another.
The Holiday Swap by Maggie Knox - So I had been seeing this in my book recommendations from Goodreads and Amazon and I kind of ignored it. But I finally decided to read the summary and let me know you, it had me hooked. There’s twins, amnesia, switching places of the twins and did I forget to mention there’s food involved. I feel like this is less holiday and more of a contemporary Freaky Friday with food. If one of you gets a chance to read it before me, let me know.
If The Fates Allow: A Short Story by Rainbow Rowell - I love Rainbow Rowell. Though I haven’t read all of her work, I have read Fangirl and Eleanor & Park, and I loved them both. So this is a short story, about a girl name Reagan who is living through the pandemic at Christmas time. Reagan has decided to head back to her hometown to spend the holidays with her grandpa and to regain a little normalcy during this weird time. What she didn’t count on was running into the boy next door all grown up. Now she’s feeling all warm and fuzzy and it isn’t the Christmas magic that’s making her feel this way. Maybe Reagan will have a holly jolly Christmas. *wiggles eyebrows*
My New Crush Gave To Me by Shani Petroff - This is a classic story of girl , Charlie, wants to be with guy, Mr. Popular, except he doesn’t know she exists. But Charlie is determined to make him see her. Thus she enlists the help of Mr. Popular’s cousin, the annoying J.D. Yet the more she gets to know him, she begins to question who she really wants? Maybe Mr. Popular isn’t who she should want for Christmas.
Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn & David Levithan - I bought this book last year because I saw the promo for the show on Netflix. I want to read the book before I watch it and maybe this holiday I’ll get the chance. The premise is Lily has left a notebook full of challenges at her favorite bookstore, hoping the right guy will find it. Enter Dash, who not only finds the book but trades back dares, as well as some other things. Could their interaction go beyond just trading back notebooks?
Mistletoe & Mr. Right by Sarah Morgenthaler - So this book is the second in the Moose Springs series and I have read the first one The Tourist Attraction. I really liked the story but some of the repetition didn’t do it for me. But I am excited to read the second in the series and have put the third one on my TBR list. So this book picks up where the first one left off with Lana, a rich socialite who wants to improve Moose Springs. Rick is a local who has been a little down on his luck when his dream girl, Lana returns to town. Lana wants to prove she belongs by hunting the Santa Moose and accidentally shoots Rick with a tranquilizer dart. This may finally be Rick’s chance to catch Lana’s attention. Maybe by working together to catch the Santa Moose, they can find out where they belong.
The Holiday Ex-Files by Jennifer Peel - This description really reeled me in. A woman catches her husband cheating right under the Christmas tree and she creates a business of removing exes from photos of their jilted partners, called The Holiday Ex-Files. However, her ex-husband’s best friend Noah comes in the picture to help restore some of the Christmas magic in her. And now she’s thinking maybe she married the wrong friend. Quite the interesting read.
A Holly Jolly Diwali by Sonya Lalli - Can I just say I love the color scheme of the cover. No, it’s not very Christmas-y but it somehow feels me with warmth anyway. So with have straight laced Nikki who has a stable job and didn’t stray too far from home. Typical type A. Yet when she loses her job, she decides to go to a friend’s wedding on a whim and meets a musician named Sam. The two hit it off and end up on the group honeymoon with the bride and the sparks fly even hotter. However, a new job offer back home has her thinking, she should choose the straight path or take a chance on this new and exciting life?
The Matzah Ball by Jean Meltzer - A rivals turned lovers story with a splash of holiday. My kind of read. Rachel is a Jewish girl who secretly loves Christmas and has hidden a career as a Christmas romance novelist. But when her publisher suggest she write a Hanukkah (or Chanukah), Rachel must draw inspiration from the Matzah Ball where she runs into her summer camp nemesis, Jacob. But as she spends more time with Jacob—and Hanukkah—she may find herself warming up to both.
The Holiday Switch by Tif Marcelo - Lila is ready for the holidays but her boss’s annoyingly cute nephew, Teddy, may have thrown a wrench in her plans. Yet when they switch phones by accident, they discover some secrets about the other person. Can uncovering what’s hidden bring them closer together?
I hope you find something you’ll love to read and please drop suggestions in the comments for others. Happy Holidays!
