Darius & Chayla - I Need A Ride
CHAYLA POV
Trina texted several times after dinner last night, but I ignored all of them. When she called, I immediately turned off my phone and went to bed early. The next morning, I realized I should have made up with Trina because Trina was the one that drove them to school.
I had my driver’s license but I had no car and I didn’t really want to ride the bus and be labeled even more a loser. But she couldn’t ask her parents for a ride. One, because Dad went to work before I even woke up and two, Mom would ask what was up between me and Trina and I couldn’t even fathom a plausible answer.
Then I remembered Darius had given me his number and said if I needed anything, I could text him. It was a long shot but I had to try.
I opened the little text bubble and searched for Darius’ name. I tapped the little pen to begin drafting my text. I started with
Hi
But thought that sounded too chipper. So I opted for
What’s up
Too grammatically correct.
Hello
Nope. Not that either.
Hey
Now that sounded like me. Unsure yet still friendly enough to approach. So I hit send. Within mere moments, I had a reply.
Hey
Now why did I imagine him saying that all sexy with a deep, sleepy voice. Although it was 7:15. And school started at 8. He should be up by now. If not, I guess I’d be the one to wake him up.
Can I ask you for a favor?
I typed and hit send before I could even think about it.
Sure. What’s up?
Interesting. He typed that out grammatically correct. I thought he’d write it as Wassup or What up, but that was me being judgemental. I barely knew this boy, so I shouldn’t assume he was like most of the guys from school. Although, I shouldn’t judge them like that either. The only person I’ve ever texted was Trina and that one boy I worked on a school project with. And I did most of the texting. He’d only reply with a ‘yep’ or a ‘k.’ So there wasn’t much to go on there.
You there?
Oh shit. I forgot to answer him.
Yeah. I was going to ask if you could give me a ride to school.
Sure. Not a problem. Text me your address.
