Does That Work For You Ch. 5 Sneak Peak
I’ve been writing these last few months and wanted to share what I have been writing. Enjoy.
Derrick made himself a glass of wine and sat down with the rules Nadia had written for their budding relationship. As much as he didn’t want to have rules to their dating, they’d have one time to get caught at the office and Lauren in HR would have their heads. So he’d better get his urges under control if he planned to continue working with Nadia.
Rule #1
No Touching
He barked out in laughter. “No touching,” he did air quotes. That was easier said than done. Just seeing Nadia made his skin alight with fire and his blood sizzle. His hands itched to touch her smooth, mahogany skin that intoxicated his senses. But if he wanted to keep her working there, he’d do what he’d have to do.
Underneath ‘No touching’ she also wrote, only not work-related touches were allowed. Work-related touches included handing over papers, phone receivers, and other office supplies. Touches also included hand shakes and possibly pats on the back. Maybe even a high five.
He smiled at the high five. Derrick didn’t even think he’d ever high-fived a co-worker before. But if that’s what Nadia was into, he was up for it.
Rule # 2
No Lingering/Longing Looks
Derrick couldn’t argue with that. If anyone were to see the two of them interacting, they would know something was up.
He really had to work hard to control himself around Nadia. Her beauty was mesmerizing. From the dark curls crowning her head, cascading down her strong back; her soft, full lips, her captivating curves; Derrick could just get lost in looking at her forever.
Mentally agreeing to rule two, he moved on to the next one.
Rule #3
No Licking Lips
Another bark of laughter escaped his lips and immediately his tongue went to lick them, causing another wave of mirth to leave him.
How was he supposed to not lick his lips? Just looking at her made his mouth water. Just looking at her made other parts of him wet.
He truly wanted to respect Nadia’s wishes but if he had to be honest, this was a bit ridiculous. Although, it was nice to know he affected her this much. Just simply icking his lips was enough to drive her wild. He wondered what else drove her insane.
Rule #4
No Compliments.
“Now wait a minute,” he said aloud.
“What?” He heard a response he was not expecting.
He turned around and saw his sister standing in the kitchen with her headphones around her neck, a scowl on her face.
“I thought you were in your room,” he supplied.
“I was but I heard you out here laughing like a maniac and I wondered who possessed my brother,” Savannah responded.
“No one possessed me. I was just . . . nothing.” He shook off the thought, not sure how much he should share with Savannah. Although Savannah was a woman, with a lot of dating experience, if he were to believe half the things she told him; she’d be the perfect person to ask about these so-called rules. But he had to apologize properly to her first.
Even though he and Savannah always made up after their tiffs, he had really laid into her regarding Nadia. And if he was going to solicit his sister’s advice, he needed to make amends with her so that she’d be willing to do it. But really, he needed to say sorry because Savannah was important to him and he didn’t want this undercurrent of animosity between them. Especially since they were living together under the same room again.
“Listen.” He sat his wine glass down and got up. “I should start by saying–”
“No need.” she held up her hand. “I know you’re sorry dumb dumb.”
Derrick was relieved he had mended things with his sister. Still, he needed to properly make up with her if he was going to implore her help.
“Want to bake some cookies and order pizza?” he inquired.
“You don’t have to ask me twice.” She ran to the freezer, pulling out the cookie dough while Derrick went to preheat the oven. “So, what’s on your mind?” Savannah broke through their comfortable silence.
“Of course you’d know.” He shook his head.
He was never good at hiding anything from Savannah. She was always so inquisitive and he was so terrible at keeping secrets. If there was something on Derrick’s mind, he’d try his best to hide it from Savannah but she would just keep pestering until he told her. Finally, he yielded when she was around twelve and just decided it would be easier to tell her everything, rather than hold it all in.
Of course there were certain things he hid from her like his sex life and some of the more serious aspects of his relationships. Correction, relationship. He had only been in one real relationship with one woman. Technically he wasn’t with Nadia just yet. They hadn’t even gone out on a date yet. So far all they did was make out like horny teenagers. As exciting as their kisses had been, he knew he wanted more, he wanted something real with Nadia.
“Hello, earth to Derrick.” Savannah waved her hand in my face.
“Sorry, just thinking,” he said.
“About?” Savannah quirked an eyebrow in his direction. She probably already where my thought—or rather who—his thoughts were pertaining to, but she was still going to make him say it.
“I wanted to get your opinion one something.” He began.
“I’m listening.” She turned her body to him, giving him her undivided attention.
