Pamuya - Reunited
In this scene, Ayden has led Annalee to the school gym at night and his somehow managed to bring out her past self Pamuya. And Pamuya isn’t all too happy to see him. Feedback is welcomed. Enjoy.
Ayden POV
“Ahhhh!”
The most blood curdling screams escaped her lips, echoing throughout the gym. Luckily, the padding on the walls would absorb enough of the sound so no one would hear, and the dorms were far enough from the gym that no one dare come investigate. Plus, it was after curfew, so the staff had already turned in for the night.
Water flowed from beneath her in waves, splashing against the walls and myself. Then they suddenly receded before bursting skyward, breaking some of the glass ceiling.
Shit! Now I’ll have to get Dad to replace that. Or I could blame it on some pranksters if anyone asked.
The upward waterfall dispelled and before me was my Pamuya. Though she wasn’t dressed the way I was used to seeing her. She had on dark pants, that rumbled at the ends; her usual silver bangles were replaced with rough, tired leather bandages, and she had on a halter top with a collar, and what appeared to be broken chain links down her front.
I took a tentative step forward, cautious of the woman in front of me. It had been centuries since we’d seen one another and the last time I laid eyes upon her, they were filled with tears, anger and mostly regret. Regret for what, I didn’t know.
She was just standing there, examining her hands, taking in her form. She was magnificent in every way, from the way her raven hair flowed down her back, the way her skin glowed a deep, rich golden-brown in the light, her long, elegant figure dipping in and curving out in all the right places. She was a goddess amongst men and I didn’t deserve her.
No you don’t.
She communicated in my head again, as she’d done the first time we met. Oh how I missed this feeling. Like warmth swimming through me. Even when she was mad, I still felt happier surrounded by her, inside and out.
When she looked up, I could see the fury behind those pair of gorgeous orbs, the left one blue and the right one silver. Just as I remembered. There was always passion burning behind those eyes, even when she was happy. It was as if her love for me, this world, was like a wild flame, trying to get out.
“Pamuya, I—” but before I could get the words out, she shot me with a blast of water, knocking me on my back.
“Don’t you dare speak my name. I never want to hear you utter my name ever again as though you love me. What do you know of love?” she spat.
“Great to see you too. It’s been a while.” I stumbled to my feet.
“Shutup!” She fired another blast, sending me into the wall. Thank god it was padded.
“Do you want to keep blasting me or do want to try and listen?” I peeled myself off the wall, gasping for air. That time she’d really knocked the breath out of me. But she was always breathtaking. From the moment she fell from the sky and breathe life into me, I was enamored with her. She was my sun, my moon, my stars, my everything. Life meant nothing without her.
“Stop it!” She placed her hands over her ears, but they wouldn’t stop her from hearing my thoughts. She knew that.
“Enough!” She rushed towards me, grabbing me by the collar and slamming me into the wooden floor.
I could feel my back break and quickly healed myself, shoving her away before she had a chance to crack my ribs or crush my heart under the force of her punch. I wouldn’t be able to heal if she did that. I needed to put some distance between us and figure out a way to talk to her.
Just as I had formulated a plan, she appeared in front of me and shot another blast, sending my hurdling across the gym. But I managed to stay on my feet and soften the blow with my arms. I drew my sword quickly, sensing her closing in and sure enough, there she was above me, dropping down, fist aimed and ready. I leaped out of the way as she punched a giant hole in the floor.
Damit! Now I’ll definitely have to get my parents to donate more money to this place.
“Could you stop wrecking the place?! I’ll have to get that fixed,” I shouted at wherever she was.
“I don’t care.” Arms circled around me, lifting me high into the air before releasing me and blasting me back to the ground.
If I didn’t start defending myself soon, she’d kill me.
We both know if I wanted you dead, you would be.
“Then what do you want?” I asked her, arms opened to my sides, completely leaving myself vulnerable with her. “Just tell me what you want and I’ll do it,” I pleaded.
“I want my life back!”
She rushed me and slammed me into the wall, pressing her full spiritual weight into me, causing me to cough up blood. She definitely cracked a rib and punctured something.
I hadn’t been trying to attack her. Not because I was afraid of hurting her. She was much more powerful than me, and nothing I did would even inflict injury or even a cut upon her skin. If anything, I’d enrage her more and she’d surely end me. But I couldn’t afford to be on the offensive any longer.
I shoved her back and lunged my sword forward, barely cutting the fabric of her top as she leaped in the air and came behind me. But I was ready, twisting around to face her, blocking her attack. She swung wildly, clipping my face before I grabbed her arms and flipped her over, pinning her on the ground.
“You done? You going to listen now?”
“No.” She opened her mouth and a white light appeared at the base of her throat.
“Shit!” I jumped out of the way as a blast shot through roof, shattering whatever was left of it.
She struggled against me.
We both knew how strong she was. She could easily overpower me, as she had been doing all night. But I could see the tired in her eyes.
“I don’t know.” She roughly wiped a runaway tear from her blue eye.
That eye was always more emotional than the silver one I remembered. Her blue one coming from her mother and her silver one coming from her father, who I recalled as stoic and unfeeling.
“Pamuya.” I tried to approach her. She didn’t flinch. In fact, she looked up at me, the anger completely faded from her face and sadness etching her features.
“Ayden,” she breathed, releasing the tension that had been there since her resurrection.
I closed the space between us and embraced her, soothing circles across her back as she shook in my arms. I could feel all the pain and anguish wash over her, the weight of our love crashing down along with the regret and loss for what could have been. She clung to my shirt, digging her nails into my back, but I didn’t care. I wanted to hold on for as long as I could.
“I hate that I love you,” she whispered into my chest. It stung but I knew what she meant. It hurt, this desire to be with someone so much, you couldn’t see straight. It hurt knowing that no matter what they did to you, you’d always love them, even if they didn’t deserve it. You couldn’t help yourself.
“I know. I hate this happened. I never meant to hurt you.”
“So why did you?” She pulled back, searching my eyes, my soul, for the answers.
“I wish I knew.”
She turned away, looking up at the sky. “The sun is coming up. My time is about to run out.”
I wanted to say more, have her stay longer, but the moon spears had broken and it’d take time to make more, so the light that summoned her was all but gone.
She looked back at me, placing one hand gently on the side of my face. I leaned in and kissed the inside of her palm.
“I’m truly going to miss you.” Then she leaned upward and kissed me softly.
We stayed like that until we felt the sun’s rays shone on our skin. When we pulled apart, Pamuya was gone and Annalee looked dazed and confused. Then she left me there, alone with my aching heart.
