Working On My Writing
In this teaser, Nanette is trying to write and it’s been a minute but her sister interrupts here and asks a hard hitting question. Enjoy.
“Okay inspiration, hit me.”
“What are you doing?”
“Ah!” I jumped. “What are you doing? You scared me.” I told my sister.
“What, don’t look at me. You in here talking to yourself.”
“No I wasn’t!” I blushed even though I totally was. But if I deny, deny, deny, then eventually she’d believe me. Or at the very least, leave me alone.
“Okay, then what are you doing in here?” Seija came sauntering into my room.
Oh great. Her ass is bored and she tryin’ to mess with me.
“Look Seija, I’m working on my writing today so could please—“
“Ooh! Let me see!” She snatched the paper from my hands. “What the fuck is this?”
“It’s my schedule,” I explained, trying to grab back the paper. “It’s to help me write.”
“12 to 1: write outline. 1 to 2: write chapter one, 2 to 3: review chapter one—Nan, what is this?”
“What do you mean? I just told you. It’s my schedule. It’s going to help me focus and write my book.”
“Ha!” She laughed, flipping through the pages before throwing them back on my desk. “This will never make you write a book.”
“Excuse me?!” I stood up, standing toe to toe with my older sister.
I hated how Seija thought she knew everything. Because she was older, she had this wisdom that I simply lacked because I was younger. It was infuriating.
“And before you go off, you might learn something if you listen to me. When was the last time you wrote something?”
