NaNoWriMo Day 5
I don’t know what made me want to do more today but I was ready and I reached 500 words without even realizing. So then I decided, why not make it 1,000? And as you can see from this post’s image, I made it to 1,131 words today. I feel super proud of myself and glad I pushed myself to do more.
But then those negative thoughts creep in, telling me to do more and more and sometimes I need to know when to push and when to stop. It’s okay to do more if I’m feeling up to it. And it’s okay to stop should I want or need to. The point of NaNoWriMo or writing in general is to write. That’s it. Whether I write a sentence, a paragraph or the whole novel, the point is to just keep writing. And for those of you who are feeling like you’re not doing enough, reject those thoughts and tell yourself “It is enough.” (Psst, Listen to the Barbie movie’s “I’m Just Ken” It will give you the right energy.) Give yourself some credit and a pat on the back, or a thumbs up, or whatever to reward yourself for all your hard work. Focus on what you DID, not what you haven’t done. I hope this helps you on your writing journey.
Here’s another excerpt from my no-edit novella. Enjoy.
I had offered to pick Nadia up but she insisted on meeting me at the restaurant. To say I was nervous was a bit of an understatement. I knew she still had doubts about us and might stand me up.
To put her fears at ease, I selected a private room of an upscale restaurant that I knew none of my staff frequented. A rooftop restaurant of an elegant high-rise where only the elites could afford to stay. The restaurant had its own entrance, separate from the residents of the building, and only those with reservations to the restaurant could enter the elevator, so she’d have some privacy as she entered.
I checked my watch. 7:55 p.m.
She wasn’t late but I was beginning to worry she wouldn’t show. I was about to signal the waiter to check the entrance again when the door to our private room opened and she walked in, looking like the goddess she was.
Light refracted off the glittery mesh of her dress, cascading down her body, emphasizing the waves of her curves as she moved. Her hair was completely out, a halo of curls around head with silver earrings that dangled from her ears like a disco curtain. She was heavenly.
“Hello Nadia.” I smiled.
“Hi.” She smiled back, the slightest tinge of pink coloring her cheeks.
