Pamuya - The Frost
Pamuya has been imprisoned in The Frost, a place in the celestial heavens that holds the most dangerous and unlawful of spirits. She is visited by Wi, the sun god, and he has a proposition for her in exchange for helping her escape. Enjoy.
Pamuya POV
The ice walls that enclosed her began to melt away from her and she could feel heat warming through her skin. The chains that held her suspended in the air had loosened, descending her to the floor. Her arms were still bound to her sides, but she could move her feet easily, no longer shackled.
She looked around, surveying the area for any guards but mostly to glimpse her savior. There was no way she would have broken out of that prison. The ice doors were enchanted with celestial dusk, designed to withhold any celestial being, including Amek himself. And the only way to be freed was for the guards on duty to use their magic to free her. Although, there was one other way and that was to gather enough celestial dust to overpower the seal. And the spirit had to be strong enough to behold that much magic.
Wi appeared from the shadows, revealing himself.
“You, but why?”
“Do I need a reason to help my princess?” He bowed generously.
It made her sick his grandeur. Wi never did anything without cause and that cause usually worked in his favor. He needed something and now that he had freed, she owed. Whatever he asked for, she’d be obliged to do. For if she didn’t he could rat her out and Amek would imprison her again, or worse.
“Ask of me what you will then.”
“Princess, surely you don’t suggest my motives impure? Why when I saw the guards drag you off, I thought ‘Surely Amek has lost it. His own daughter--”
“Spit it out! What do you want from me?!”
Her patience had begun to wear thin. Wi had an ulterior motive and she wanted to know what it was. Who would she have to kill? How dirty would her hands have to get in order to return the favor to him?
“Well, if you insist.” He inched his way closer to her, slithering like the snake he was, his grin ever present on his smug face. She wanted to slap his face off his neck.
“Why do you think Amek locked you away in here?” He asked.
“I broke the rules. I saved that boy,” she simply stated.
“If that were true, he would have done so that very instant. Not let you continue to sneak off and see him.” His grin grew larger.
“How did you--”
“Oh nothing gets past me. Why I’m a snake aren’t I? I slither around where no one can see and watch all their dirty deeds.”
“Did you tell Amek about--”
“No, of course not. I have no interest in you and your love affair with you and the human. But you got careless, sloppy. It was only a matter of time before Amek found out. Correction, before Amek got tired of turning a blind eye.”
That couldn’t be true. If Amek had always known what she had been up to, why wait til now to punish her? And why punish so heavily with The Frost? If what she had been doing wasn’t so terrible that he could overlook it, what changed it his mind now?
“I know what you’re thinking, ‘Why now?’
“We both know as well as I do that you can read my mind. You’re not that clever.”
“Ouch but fair. I’ll tell you what, you agree to my request and I'll tell you why daddy suddenly snapped?”
She knew this was a trick. Anything he wanted wouldn’t be good for whoever was on the receiving end. But Pamuya had done far worse in the name of The Spirit King. She had killed friends and innocent beings who didn’t deserve it just because of Amek’s unyielding wrath and blind sense of justice. Wi was merely a thorn in her side, an annoyance at best. He only killed those he felt wronged him and only tricked those he could gain amusement out of. Technically, he hadn’t committed nearly as many injustices as Amek had. She had to think of Wi as better than her father. Surely he wasn’t but when she thought about it, who was the bigger villain?
“What is your request?”
“Help me take down Amek and you can be with your human, always.”
She couldn’t believe what he was asking. Actually, she shouldn’t have been surprised. Wi had gone on and on about how he was the sun, and thus should rule over the moon. Wi was too prideful whereas Amek was too lawful. And when it came to ruling, you needed someone who cared about the greater good, even if it meant looking like the bad guy.
Thinking about it now, though she found it hard to agree with Amek, she didn’t know what it took to be Spirit King. And neither did Wi. She knew for certain that the heavens would fall apart if he were to rule and she could let that happen.
She lunged forward and pinned him to the wall. Pushing her forearm into his throat.
“Princess, I didn’t mean--”
“Amek’s wrath is nothing compared to mine when I’ve been crossed. If you ever ask me some shit like that again, I will end your existence. Permanently! Do I make myself clear?”
“Crystal,” he croaked. “You really should have joined me.” He manifested his staff out of thin air and tapped it on the ground. Suddenly The Frost doors were closing and she could hear scrambling on the other side.
“You!” She punched him in the gut, watching him crumble on the floor before narrowly making her escape.
