NaNoWriMo Day 13

NaNoWriMo Day 13

I have decided to update my daily word count to 600. So far, I have been able to do more than 500 words a day, thus I figured 600 wouldn’t be so hard, right? And guess what? I wrote 912 words today!

Now I haven't decided if I’m going to change my total word goal from 15,000 to anything higher. I feel like I'm writing at a good pace and I don’t want to rock the boat too much. I’m worried that if I make my total word count too high, I’ll become overwhelmed and won’t meet my goal like I did in 2020.

However, when I tried to do NaNoWriMo in 2020, I had no plan and I tried to tackle the whole 50,000 word count. It all felt so overwhelming that I tapped out around 7,000. This time, I’m keeping my daily word count at a manageable number and I have a game plan each day. I always write just before I go to bed, allowing myself time to brainstorm during the day so I'll know what to write by the time I sit down to do so. Also, I have music I like to listen to and I have support from friends and family and bookstagramers like you.

I know I’m not alone in this and you’re not alone in this either. And that does help me strive to reach my goals every day. So thanks to everyone who has been supporting me on this journey. I truly appreciate it.

Here’s an excerpt from what I wrote today. Enjoy.

We arrived at the office a short while later and Reginald pulled into the parking garage, cutting the lights and the engine before stepping out.

“That’s alright Reggie. I got this.” Derrick beat him to it, climbing out on the driver’s side before coming around to the back passenger door and opening it for me. “My lady.” He held out his hand.

“I thought we agreed no cutesy stuff at work?”

“It’s six-thirty in the morning. No one is here. Not even Sylvia.” He smiled, wagging his eyebrows, trying to coax me to his charms.

I huffed and puffed before placing my hand in his and letting him help me out the vehicle. My body fell forward as I climbed out and Derrick caught me in his arms.

“Now aren’t you glad I was here?” He looked down at me, bemused.

Heat rose to my cheeks as embarrassment crossed my features. I shook the thoughts away and straightened myself in his arms before the driver saw us.

“Yes I am. Could we please go inside before anything else happens? Like my dress flying over my head.” I led the way to the elevator.

“I wouldn’t mind if that were to happen.” I could hear the grin etched on his lips.

“I’m sure you would, but we’re here to work, not give you a show,” I shot over my shoulder.

“Yes ma’am,” he saluted. Then he turned to Reginald and said, “Ms. Bryant will be needing the car for lunch around 1 p.m. You can do whatever until then.”

“Thank you. But I will be using the old fashioned method of walking for my lunch. You are free to take the rest of the day. And thank you for the ride,” I spoke.

Reggie looked between me and Derrick and Derrick simply nodded.

“Very well. I shall return this evening then. Have a good day Mr. Holden, Ms. Bryant.” He tipped his hat before hopping back in the SUV and driving off.
