NaNoWriMo Day 26

NaNoWriMo Day 26

Took some much needed rest this past week but now I’m ready to finish up strong. Only four days left and less than 5,000 words to go. Wish me luck.

Here is an excerpt from what I wrote today. Enjoy.

Sunday came around quicker than expected. I was hoping I’d have more time to decide on my outfit but Saturday I spent the whole day getting my hair done. I knew Derrick had a day out planned for me and I wanted to get my hair braided, so I wouldn’t sweat my hair out. Instead, I should have just risked the hair and spent more time on the outfit. Now I was standing here with an hour to spare and nothing to wear. Hah! That rhymed.

I stared at the piles of clothes strewn about the bed. There were blue jeans, black jeans, and even a pair of burgundy jeans but none of them looked right. They were too casual. Would Derrick be wearing jeans? Did he even own a pair of jeans?

“Ugh! Why is this so hard?!” I fell against the bed, groaning into a pillow.

Suddenly, my phone rang and I groaned some more. I could either answer it or ignore it, but neither scenario would solve my problem. Actually, if I thought about it, I could answer it and just simply ask Derrick where we were going so I could dress accordingly.

Friday before we left the office, Derrick tapped gently against my door, asking for entry. I had contemplated whether to let him in or out, but since he was my boss and we were at work, I decided it must be important.

“Enter,” I said sweetly.

“It’s after five o’clock Ms. Bryant.”

“I’m aware.” I stopped typing, intertwining my fingers underneath my chin. “Did you come in here just to remind me of the time?”

“No,” he replied just as sweetly. Which told me he was up to something. Best to be on my A game.

“So what did you come in here to tell me Mr. Holden?” I leaned back in my seat.

Sometime since his entry, he had slowly crept towards my desk and now he was standing in front of me, hands resting on my thighs, eyes piercing into mine, sending thrills down my spine into my nether region.

“So Sunday?” he said.

“Mmhm.”

“I have a surprise for you,” he said, his gaze sexily grazing over my body.

I squirmed in my seat, trying to control my raging hormones. “What kind of surprise?”

“Oh the very best kind.” He smiled, slowly grinding one of his manly legs in between my quivering thighs.

“Which is?” I gulped.

“The kind I can’t tell you about.” He reached out, stroking a finger against my cheek.

“Seriously Derrick,” I decided to end the spell before we went too far. “What are we doing Sunday?”

He chuckled. “Where something comfortable. We’ll be outdoors. And that’s all I can tell you.” He removed himself from between my legs. He left me flummoxed in my office before I eventually joined him in the car and he dropped me off.

And here I was, still not ready to go with no idea where he was taking me.

I answered the phone, hoping he’d put me out of my misery. “Please tell me where we’re going, I beg of you!”

He laughed, loudly. “Is it that hard to just put on some jeans and some tennis shoes?”

“Yes!” I flailed my arms about. Then I sat up. “Wait? Are you wearing jeans? Do you even own a pair of jeans?”

“Yes I own a pair of jeans, just like everyone on the planet.”

“Not if you’re a Bhuddist monk,” I countered.

“Okay, besides them. Just get that sexy behind of yours down here. I don’t want to be late.” And with that he hung up.

I decided to go for the burgundy jeans, so I’d stand out with a burgundy halter/turtleneck sleeveless top, since there was a little chill in the air. And to complete the look, black sneaks with a black denim jacket, and big gold hoop earrings. Then I collected my twists and tied them into a bun on the top of my head.

“Ready as I’ll ever be,” I said to myself in the mirror as I checked the look one final time.

When I came downstairs, Ralph was already outside of the car, holding the door open for me.

“So, where are you taking me?”

“You’ll see. Just trust me.” He grabbed my hand in his, planting a warm, gentle kiss against my skin. “And by the way, you look stunning.”

“Thank you,” was all I could reply. I felt like a princess being swept away by my charming prince. And I loved every minute of it.
