It's Cold Outside by Denise Williams

It's Cold Outside by Denise Williams

The fifth book I read for Christmas this year was a steamy romance on a college campus that’s sure to keep anyone warm at night.

Kris is working over the holidays, trekking across a frozen, snow filled campus when a smiley face on the hood of a car. Being the grinch that she is, she simply replies ‘No,’ and moves on with her life. Who would have thought that simple interaction would lead to Adam. Adam too is working over the holidays finishing his dissertation, but he’s more glass half full than empty kind of guy. Except, he’s suffering from writer’s block. But then he and Kris engage in a no strings attached affair, and suddenly the words are flowing. Now they must decide if this is just sex or something more.

I liked Adam and Kris in this story. They felt completely realistic and dimensional. Adam was sometimes shy and then other times assertive and carnal. I could feel the lead heroine’s surprise at all his layers because I was surprised as well. And Kris was cold except with Adam because of how he took the time to get to know her soft spots. I truly felt a connection to both of these characters and loved reading every part of them.

The only downside for me in this novella was the fact that I didn’t get more of them. Had this been a full novel, I would have had more time to discover the depths of their relationship as well as their individual selves. Also, there were quite a bit of sex scenes. And while I loved each one, had there been less of them, there could have been more time for the characters to develop their relationship. But that’s a minor criticism that could be completely irrelevant if the story were a full novel.

It’s Cold Outside was an incredible read that definitely made me feel warm and bright. A 4.5 out of 5 stars.
